The Website goes live
On September 3, Russell published the ‘Uncovering Wesley’ website. He also made a post on Reddit with a link to the website. Within the next 48 hours, this ‘scandal’ attracted about 200,000 views.
I admit that I felt good. I believed that I had funded a good cause, and that this incorrigible scammer would finally be held accountable for stealing the life savings of innocent people.
Of course, one day later, Wesley made a tweet denying the allegations stated on the website.
He also alluded to the fact he thought I was behind it. Privately, he mentioned to several people in the high stakes poker community that he was certain I had created it, and had completely fabricated facts and evidence to destroy his reputation. However, he had no evidence of this, and had started going into a frenzy.
In Wesley’s tweet after the website went live, he claimed that someone reached to him and asked him for $35,000 in exchange for not posting it. Russell said that Wesley was the one who reached out to him. Blinded by my personal dislike for Wesley, I believed that he was lying.
I began deleting messages from my conversations with Russell because I suspected that he had shared one of our prior exchanges with Wesley. While I believed that I was on the right side, I was still highly motivated to ensure that my part in this remained confidential. At this point, I thought that Wesley was desperately trying to salvage his reputation after being confronted with irrefutable proof.
